Our NGO CEED was formed in 1998 by a group of professional social women workers in the towns of Guntur and Adilabad in Andhra Pradesh, India.
CEED aim is to help those living in poverty, especially physically disabled women.
We work in the rural areas for the development of poor to give them strength to sucCEED in their life. Empty pockets never held anyone back. Only empty heads and empty hearts can do that.
CEED mainly concentrates on physically challenged, CEED is conducting many awareness camps all over Guntur and help the disabled with energy conservative techniques, endurance development exercises so that they build self-confidence to face the society.
People with disabilities want to live life no differently than anyone else. They want to be able to go shopping, go to the movies, go out to eat, work, and enjoy life, fully realizing that must be done within the boundaries of their limitations.
CEED is helping them to overcome those problems and make them realize that nothing is impossible until and unless we go for it.
Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan (SSA) talks of Education for all. The fact remains that many disabled people are not enrolled under this scheme due to the severity of Disability. Also, teachers are not trained in inclusive education. CEED believe that education among disabled children gives hope to better future of their families and themselves.
CEED gives counselling to parents or family members thinking education to disabled child/adult is not productive in any way and it is waste of time, money and other resources and CEED gives strong advice to parents who give the east priority in education for the disabled child/adult when compared to his or her sibling due to poverty of parents or the attitudinal barriers
The cost involved in educating a disabled child is more when compared to a non- disabled child, due to the architectural barriers in the society. CEED help such families with small grants to help the child get educated.
The Persons with Disabilities Act, 1995 does not speak of reservations in Higher Educational Institutions and only talks about open universities. Many Disabled People are denied entry into professional courses like MBA, Engineering and Medicine due to their disability.
CEED also have a plan to build a school for the disabled with trained staff to procure the best education, for which the land was already purchased.
CEED had made awareness programs in Upparapalem village, Kummarapalem village and all the near by villages of Vinukonda, Guntur district, A.P because drinkingwater in these areas contain an excess of fluoride due to which the calcium intake is not absorbed in the body, causing disabilities and deformities, so we find 40% of disability.
CEED is working hard with limited resources for the development of the disabled in education and also has an idea to develop skills training opportunity for their self employment followed by micro credit loans.
Staff and board members of CEED thank the Director of MEND Organisation, NZ Mr. Rob Buchanan who is guiding CEED to expand the project on disabled and the Webmaster MR.Jim Hekker for his great support.
The overall aim of CEED is to make the community self- reliant on specific objectives being:
- Providing the appropriate wheelchairs to the disabled in order to bring them from isolation to inclusion, from dependency to freedom, from passive receiver to active contributor which eventually leads them to live longer and healthier.
- Organising women and youth camps to solve their own problems through proper planning implementation and monitoring of the programmes.
- Creating avenues for employment through appropriate technology that makes maximum use of local resources.
- Imparting training in skills and trades such as tailoring, soft skills, electronics repairing.
- Conducting trafficking, domestic violence abusement, and AIDS/HIV awareness camps.
We have a new project for orphans and destitute women and planning to build an orphanage, old age homes and best school and home for disabled.
FUTURE: Moreover we have many projects for future like food plantation, leprosy aid, educational institutions etc.
